Top 5 Places to Publish Content to Drive Traffic and Engagement

by | Nov 30, 2021

As they say, “content is king”. If you’re a business owner, then deciding where to market your products or services takes a big chunk of your day. But have you considered which platforms or channels that can best drive traffic to your product page or service offering?

Content creation is, by far, one of the most interesting ways of attracting new customers, as it gives you credibility, allows you to become the authority in the field, and it provides an opportunity to strike a conversation with potential customers.

However, just creating good content usually isn’t sufficient.

Why Creating Content Is Not Enough?

You may have a better product than your competitors, offer better service, but if nobody hears about it – it will be as if you haven’t done anything.

Getting your content out there, promoting it across different networks to reach out to potential customers is something that will make all the difference in lead generation, sales, and most importantly, revenue.

We asked experienced marketers and business owners what their thoughts are on the best places to publish content that drives traffic and engagement, and here’s what they said.

Five Best Places to Publish Content and Drive Traffic

Here are the best five places to publish your content according to the experts.

Reddit

Reddit is one of the best places to publish your content and drive traffic to your website. With more than 430 million monthly active users, Reddit is a social network that provides low-funnel traffic, precise targeting, and a highly engaged audience.

That said, if you play your cards right, Reddit can help you skyrocket your website’s traffic and increase engagement that will help you scale your business much faster than any other network.

However, before publishing on this network, you need to understand how it works, since many users know how to spot intentional promotion, which doesn’t go well with them.

Seb Evans, the Co-Founder of Banquist, also recommends Reddit for driving traffic to your website. However, he states that you should be active on this network (subreddits) before promoting your content.

Generally, it’s advisable to be subtle when pitching your content on Reddit.

The best strategy for this is to avoid sharing links directly, but to post on relevant subreddits and share the link below your comment to avoid appearing too promotional.

Medium

Medium is an online publishing platform where readers across the globe can find insightful information on almost any topic from car repair to dating advice. It’s an amazing platform for increasing traffic to your website too, as its readership is quite large.

Sira Mas from The Truly Charming states that the reason why Medium is so good is the fact that you “can grow your own mailing list by adding a call to action with a link to your sign up form at the end of each article and in your bio. Also, in your bio you can choose to add a link to your website instead of the mailing list sign up form, which counts as a dofollow backlink.

Once you have collected your first subscribers, you can send them newsletters that include links to your own website. You can also include links to your services and products, which will help your business grow. This strategy worked for me, as it helped me grow my mailing list from 0 to more than 1000 subscribers in less than a year and land high-quality clients.”

She even shared some examples of how she managed to increase website’s traffic using Medium:

Quora

Quora is yet another social media platform that can help you drive traffic to your website and increase engagement among readers. Quora functions as a forum, where people ask different questions in the hope that they’ll solve a problem or get insights into the matter.

If you want to drive traffic to your website, you can find Quora questions specific to your niche, place an answer and include links to your content within the answers. If you play it right, chances are people interested in a topic will click on your links which will drive traffic to your website.

Lynda Fairly, Co-founder of NoomLooker states that Quora is hugely popular and gets 5-10x the volume of traffic compared to typical sites.

There are two types of people hanging out on Quora. First, there are people looking for an answer to a question, and second, there are experts sharing their knowledge. You can tap into both at once by creating content that answers user questions. Not many people are doing this.

“So, by publishing content to Quora you’ll be one of the few getting exposure to users looking for answers on Quora. And if you can answer some of their questions, you’ll also get exposure to the user’s friends on Quora. This isn’t just a one-way street. By creating content that answers users’ questions, you’re likely to reach new audiences for your blog post—and new audiences are valuable,” Fairly explains.

HARO

Help a Reporter Out or, shortly HARO, is an online platform where journalists ask questions to find the most relevant sources they can use while covering the specific topic.

HARO is a great link building platform as well since reporters usually link their resources which helps them climb the SERP’s ladder much faster and get traffic to their website.

What’s best, you don’t have to spend much time and effort while writing your HARO responses. The answers are usually up to 300 words long, and since you already know the subject, you won’t spend time researching the topic.

Tanner Arnold, a President & CEO of Revelation Machinery also recommends HARO as a great traffic-building platform:

“Many people fuss over do-follow and no-follow links, but a well-written quote will draw people to your website regardless of the type of link. So, I think quotable content is a great way to drive organic traffic since you will get new visitors to your websites from sources that don’t typically supply your organic traffic. The best part is HARO is completely free to use and is one of the most effective SEO techniques for 2022 and beyond for generating more website traffic.”

Publish blog posts on niche-specific websites

Writing guest posts on websites specialized in your niche is yet another great way of getting traffic to your website.

Kristine Daub, the Founding Editor of byCurated recommends using guest posting to increase the traffic to your website as well.

She states that, usually, people who read such outlets are interested in topics you cover and if your content is good and useful, chances are they’re going to visit your website asking for more.

Facebook

As we already saw, social media proves to be a potent place that can help you increase the traffic to your website and bring readership’s engagement. You can use Social media channels, such as Facebook, as a way to reach out to your target audience since it’s more likely for people to discover your content via those channels.

J. Weiss, the Founder of The Ways to Wealth, confirms Facebook’s worth when it comes to increasing traffic and engagement and suggests posting your content on Facebook and using Paid advertising to reach out to consumers.

“While our page has more than 20,000 followers, our organic reach is less than 8% of that audience. Often, we’re able to drive traffic from Facebook at $0.05 to $0.07 per click.”

Weiss adds: “This allows us to engage with our existing audience, but often our revenue model allows us to generate a profit on the click itself. Yes, it’s unfortunate that Facebook requires you to pay to reach the audience you built. However, what we’ve found is when we publish quality content and create engaging ads, it’s among our best traffic sources.
